19th Century British Army Fur Cap

This style of fur cap was popular in Canada during the first half of the 19th century. There is no way to date this cap, but its liner is typical of the period and the fur appears to be a course seal skin with a slit or crack break in the leather on one side near the head band edge. The fur is in great condition as is the liner. It includes a fold down ear muff. There are pictures or illustrations of this cap being worn by cavalry in the 1837 rebellion in Canada and in the winter weather of the Crimea. A distinctive specialized headdress of the period.
