Summer Camp for the Montreal Garrison c.1880s
A large photo of the officers from the Montreal Garrison attending summer camp C.1880s. I am making some assumptions to determine the Garrison based on the insignia on the helmets and the rifle Officer cross belts. The one on the far right appears to be with the 3rd Victoria Rifles. Dating is a harder exercise, but based on the varied tunics, it appears some are still wearing the 1870 Officer tunic with collar ranks, while others appear to be wearing the 1881 tunic with no collar insignia. Some of the gentlemen in the photo have shooting trophy wards the full length of their left arms. The Highlander may be from the 5th Black Watch. Some fading, but an interesting study.
