Spanish or Mexican Cup Hilt Rapier c.1780s
Here is a fine example of a Spanish cup hilt rapier from the late 18th Century embellished with ornamentation on the cup with birds and other cultural representations typical of Mexican style. This is the sword type used by the infamous Hollywood heroic character "Zoro" featured in those Saturday Matinee kid's movies of old. The blade has a nice patina with typical wear, missing its tip with a unique form, in that it is scalloped along its full length. The cup and steel wrapped grip hilt are for the most part firm and all original. A really nice example from early North American history. No scabbard.
