Infantry Officer Pattern 1822 Sword (piquet weight)

The piquet weight 1822 pattern Infantry sword with a plane blade and no maker marks. The narrow pipe back blade was not meant for combat being unadorned, the metal showing a grey patina and some minor pitting and barely visible nicks. Probably an early example. The Gothic folding hilt has lost its gilding and displays the VR cypher, the sharkskin grip shows wear and the wire grip is tight for the most part, but two strands are loose. The hinge on the hilt is sound, but the spring is a little resistant to allow the hilt to fold down all the way. The scabbard is the standard leather pattern with all chaps in place and in presentable order. A nice blade for a display with a uniform.
