Full Dress tunic to the 46th Durham Bn with Sash

A nice example of a pre WWI formal line infantry full dress tunic to the 46th Bn. It has standard general service maple leaf brass army buttons and collars, unit shoulder titles appropriate to this Bn. The Sgt stripes may have been added post war in the 1920s or 30s. This tunic is of the 1878 pattern or style, but is the later version with some economy measures in material. It has an owners name inside and a black leather flap with the maker mark and dated 1905. As a full dress tunic it only has a fob pocket at the right front waist seam and an internal pocket on the left breast. The tunic has all of the insignia expected, the white piped detailing is in great shape along with its blue facings. The original liner is in great condition and the scarlet tunic has retained its colour consistently, with no fading. The Sgt sash is included. An overall great example of what the Militia wore on parade at this time. These uniforms stayed in service 20 to 30 years. They were worn by part time soldiers so they lasted a long time, however they rarely survive in this condition. A great example. Blue wedge caps, forge caps and late pattern white helmets were worn with these uniforms.
