British Army 1903 Utility Belt with Cavalry Rig
These belts were issued to cavalry, artillery and rear area units for light equipment. In the case of Cavalry the Lee-Metford ammunition bandolier and the later 5 pouch and 10 pouch bandolier replacements were anchored to these belts. There were slide on Webley holsters and pistol ammo pouches that could slide onto the belt and there were single pocket rifle ammo pouches that held 10 rounds each that could also be worn in singles, pairs or multiples. You also see photos of the belt being worn on its own with no other equipment. A common piece of kit for UK Soldiers, but you do occasionally see them in Canadian use as well. This particular set is typical of what British cavalry or artillery NCOs wore, with a holster and pouch for wear with the bandoliers described above. The holster includes a brass pull through an all of its intact parts. The pouch is in good condition with a museum mark on the inside flap. Marked RA and in great supple condition.
