1882 Cavalry Cartouche Pouch and Shoulder Belt
This is the standard Cartridge box for the Martini Henry Carbine ammo. The flap is in nice condition and has slots for a badge to be affixed, the badge impression can be seen in the leather. The lid is stiff and there is a signs of stress at the hinge. The back of the box has suffered exposure to extreme heat with some rippling in the leather finish, not uncommon for this equipment. The British forces used these during the Egypt Campaign among others. In Canada these were used in Northwest Canada Campaign. All of the ammo loops are in place and all the clasps, buckles and tabs are present. The cross belt is stiff, but not brittle, and retains its button loop and brass buckles. A nice complete set. Rare item.
