Canadian Militia Sword Slings with Web Belt

With the introduction of the 1881 full dress tunic came the waist sash, a soft cloth belt completely unsuited to caring a sword. To accommodate this issue, a small plain waist web belt with two "D" rings was worn under the tunic that carried the ornate sword slings from under the tunic. The sling hung from under the tunic skirt on the left with the crimson sash worn on the waist. Only the ornate slings can with their embellished lion head clasps can be seen on this rig hanging beneath the skirt of the tunic.

Here is offered a standard set with the complete slings for that period of uniform including a snake belt buckle, indicating an early web belt. This is a rig system still used to this day, but modern versions have a simple clasp belt buckle. A nice early set.
