It is suggested that black insignia of this type was issued to the RCR, but this is not confirmed, it is more likely they were issued to Rifleman of Militia Rifle Regiments. Matching and with 95% of their paint.  read more

A picture of a named soldier of the RCR c.1900. His name is 7616 Pte MJ Carter. Carter was with the Canadian Militia 2nd Regt RCA prior to the war. Apparently these items were collected at the Somme Battlefield by one of my clients in the 1990s. The items include boot cleats, damaged spent cartridges, bolts from dug outs, empty cartridges dated 1915, balls from detonated shrapnel shells, pieces of jagged shrapnel and barbed wire, pottery from run jugs and other bits and pieces.
